A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Ashling Murphy.
The suspect in his 30s was arrested today.
The 23 year old teacher was killed last Wednesday while out for a run at a canal bank near Tullamore, Co Offaly.
The suspect is being detained at Tullamore Garda Station where he can be held for up to 24 hours.
John Hand, the chief reporter with the Irish Daily Mirror, says gardai made the arrest earlier today:
"Well a man in his 30s has been arrested this afternoon."
"He was arrested at a Dublin Hospital before being escorted down to Tullamore Garda Station where he's detained now."
"The man in his 30s can be held for up to 24 hours before he has to be charged or released over the murder of Ashling Murphy last Wednesday evening."
