A man has gone on trial accused of murdering an Irish boxing champion in Limerick city two years ago.
Logan Jackson, a 31-year-old man with an address in Coventry, England, is alleged to have intentionally knocked him down after leaving a house party in the early hours of July 1st 2019.
After watching Limerick beat Tipperary in the 2019 Munster Hurling Final, Kevin Sheehy later found himself at a house party with his cousin and some friends.
Logan Jackson was there too.
Opening his case today, the prosecuting barrister, Dean Kelly, told the jurors they’d hear evidence of an exchange between them as they left for home at about 4.30am.
Moments after they went their separate ways, Mr Kelly said the accused got into a jeep and drove it at speed towards Kevin and his cousin.
He said it would be alleged that he “thundered” into them.
Mr Sheehy in particular bore the brunt of the impact, he added.
After knocking him down, Mr Jackson is said to have “wasted no time” in turning the jeep around and driving over Kevin’s body as he tried to get up.
Mr Jackson has pleaded guilty to manslaughter but is being tried for murder.
