Mike Pence Leaves NFL Game After Players Kneel During Anthem

The US Vice President last night walked out of an NFL game after players refused to stand for the National Anthem.

Mike Pence turned up at the Lucas Oil Stadium to see his home team, the Indianapolis Colts, take on the San Francisco 49ers.

A number of 49ers players decided to kneel during the National Anthem, in protest against police brutality.

The debate has been a divisive one in recent weeks, after Donald Trump suggested players who kneel during the anthem be fired by their teams' respective owners.

Vice President Pence took to Twitter to express why he walked out of the game:

It was former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who initially started the protest last year, when he was highlighting excessive force and brutality used by police, after a number of unarmed black men had been shot and killed in the weeks previous.

One of the players who was protesting during last night's game, Eric Reid, thought Pence's actions were part of a publicity stunt:
