Transport bosses are expected to announce an earlier return for Dublin's late night bus service.

The late night bus service wasn’t due to be back operating on October 22nd when COVID-19 restrictions are scheduled to be eased and nightclubs reopen.

The Nitelink wasn't due to start operating again until the end of November despite the expected reopening of nightclubs next Friday.

Fianna Fáil TD Cormac Devlin says he expects services to be back running on October 22nd;

"The reality is the Department [Of Transport] and the NTA realise that having a late night bus service from the end of November, isn't really sufficient if easing of restrictions happened at the end of October. There would be no option for people to get home apart from taxis, which wasn't going to be sufficient."

This comes as the The Higher Education Minister called for college campuses to work with town and city councils, to ensure a safer environment for students travelling home from nights out.

Simon Harris said he was planning on discussing the issue with the Transport Minister, with the aim of getting the Nitelink service back in action for the planned reopening next week.
