Off licences could have their hours cut to tackle house parties
The Government’s considering the measure to stop the spread of Covid 19.
Under level 3 restrictions, which we are now in, social gatherings are banned.
But there are ongoing concerns that house parties or even smaller social gatherings like family birthdays will still take place.
The Government’s now considering whether off licences should have their opening hours cut as a result to discourage parties.
Dr. Chris Luke, who is a consultant in Emergency Medicine believes off-licences should only open during the morning.
The National Off Licence Association is warning that changing their hours could impact on small family owned business.
It’s instead urging the Government to focus on limiting the sale of cheap alcohol - which it feels would reduce irresponsible drinking.
