People now have the right to disconnect from work.
That might mean you can ignore work related calls and emails at the weekends or after you've clocked off.
From today you have the right to disconnect from work! Tánaiste @LeoVaradkar signing a new code that allows:
- right to not routinely work out of normal hours
- right to not be penalised for refusing to work out of hours
- duty on people not to routinely call/email out of hours— Seán Defoe (@SeanDefoe) April 1, 2021
The Tánaiste has signed a new code of practice, which will see colleagues respecting each others right to disconnect.
It also gives workers the right to not be penalised for not responding.
New Code Is Flexible To Each Workplace
The Tánaiste says the code is flexible for each workplace.
Leo Varadkar said there's "no such thing" as a "9 to 5, Monday to Friday job anymore".
He says employers should sit down with their staff and create a policy under the new code that fits their unique workplace.
Employees who feel their rights are being breached will be able to take their employer to the Workplace Relations Commission.
Meanwhile, the Government has also launched a public consultation today.
That're looking at giving employees the legal right to request to work from home.
