Discussions will take place at the Cabinet table this morning surrounding the potential regulation of rickshaws in the cities.

The meeting of ministers will consider the proposals after calls for them to be regulated according to the Herald.

Rickshaws have become a popular mode of transport in recent years, especially at night time among club-goers.

There has been calls to regulate them, however, after a number of incidents in recent years.

Transport Minister Shane Ross is bringing the proposals to Cabinet, with fellow ministers to discuss the issues later.

Minister Ross previously said he was in favour of an outright ban on rickshaws in a speech in the Dail.

Ministers will consider a number of potential laws, which include rickshaw operators to require a licence and Garda vetting.

The new laws would also see Motorised rickshaws completely banned due to potential risks they pose.

Recently, over half of people using a rickshaw reported accidents or near-misses in a survey by the National Transport Authority.
