The rising cost of living could see wages increase across the board.
SIPTU says workers in the private sector need pay increases to meet the rising cost of living.
The union is appealing to employers to be creative when it comes to putting additional money in workers' pockets.
They're calling for the government to raise the tax-free amount from 500 to 1-thousand euro for employee gifts.
The latest figures from the CSO show inflation reached the highest rate in 22 years so far this year to March.
The Irish inflation rate was 6.7% in March, says the CSO, up from 5.6% in the previous month.
This is the largest annual increase since November 2000.

SIPTU's Deputy General Secretary for the Private Sector, Gerry McCormack, says they'll talk to employers they represent.
"We have been engaging with employers, many of them are quite willing to sit down and discuss this with us," he said.
"Some probably won't because we already have agreements in place."
"It doesn't have to be percentage increases, but it has to be to put money in our members' pockets."
Talks around a new public sector pay deal are set to take place later this month.
