An uncle of Sophie Toscan du Plantier is urging Ian Bailey not to be 'afraid' of a new trial in France - if he's really innocent.
He also says he'd welcome an Irish cold case investigation into her murder.
French filmmaker Sophie Toscan du Plantier was violently beaten to death in Schull in west Cork almost 25 years ago.
No one has ever been charged with her murder in Ireland, but Ian Bailey was convicted in his absence in Paris two years ago.
France has failed to get him extradited from Ireland to face a jail sentence.
French President Suggests New Toscan du Plantier Murder Trial
Last week, while on a visit to Dublin, French president Emmanuel Macron made this plea to Ian Bailey.
"Should the person condemned agree to come to France, a new trial could be organised."
Sophie's uncle, Jean-Pierre Gazeau, is the president of the Association for the Truth About the Murder of Sophie.
He strongly supports the French president's call.
"The best and the most rapid way to get justice is to have a trial for Mr Bailey in France."
"He Should Not Be Afraid If He's Really Innocent"
Mr Gazeau has made this plea to Ian Bailey.
"Ian Bailey's always claiming he's innocent."
"If he's innocent, he should not be afraid of a trial in France."
"The law system there, is objective to the freedom of people, so he should not be afraid if he's really innocent."
Ian Bailey has always denied any involvement in Sophie's murder, and his solicitor says he will not be travelling to France for a new trial, under any circumstances.
