The statues at the Shelbourne Hotel were removed in July

The Shelbourne Hotel is to reinstall four statues that were removed from outside the property during the Summer.

Owners removed the monuments back in July citing the Black Lives Matter movement.

It was thought they depicted slaves, however it has been confirmed by an art historian that they don't, according to the Irish Times.

However author Dr Ebun Joseph believes the statues, which rested on plinths, are in fact slaves:

"Look at the servitude, the position of servitude, that those black bodies are in in front of a white opulent hotel," she said.

"It came from an era where black bodies were romanticised, where black bodies were used to demonstrate that differentiation between different groups."
