Addressing the nation this evening Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed much of the speculation around easing restrictions.

He said that by December 1st, Ireland will move to Level 3 restrictions with "some modifications".

On this date churches, museums, galleries, cinemas, gyms, golf courses, hairdressers and libraries will open.

Three days later, on December 4th, restaurants, gastropubs and hotel dining can operate.

The 18th of December is the third stage of reopening.

On this date people can leave their counties. The inter-county rule will remain in place until January 6th.

Up to two households can gather during this period with no limit to the number of people in these households.

Wet pubs will not open again this year, the Taoiseach has promised extra supports for this group, which will be delivered fast.

Taoiseach Martin concluded his address with a nod to the Late Late Toy Show and a word of thanks to Ireland's youngest generation.

"Your strength and the way you’ve coped with the challenge of Covid is an inspiration," he said speaking to camera.

"You’re going to hear a lot about Roald Dahl tonight.  In keeping with that, remember what the small foxes said to their father, the Fantastic Mr Fox, “We can do it! You see if we can’t.  You can too!”"
