The British Prime Minister Theresa May will visit Ireland on Friday after Brexit talks in Brussels.

"I'll be meeting Prime Minister May - she'll be coming to Dublin on Friday evening, and we'll have dinner together" said Leo Varadkar.

He added that "it's an opportunity as well to discuss the situation and work together to chart a way forward."

She's trying to secure concessions on the Brexit backstop - an "insurance policy" designed to prevent a hard border in Ireland no matter what happens after Brexit.

Today, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar met with the Presidents' of the European Commission and European Council, who also reiterated the withdrawal agreement can't be renegotiated.

Donald Tusk said that there was "a special place in hell" for those who promoted Brexit without any plan.

It was after the Taoiseach's meeting with Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels that he confirmed Mrs. May's visit at the end of the week.

Both men again stressed that the Irish backstop is not open for renegotiation.

The British Prime Minister is due to travel to Brussels tomorrow to discuss the continuing Brexit impasse.
