It comes as part of the 5th Veterinary Practice Survey.

40 per cent of veterinary practice owners are considering selling their businesses.

They say it's due to a recruitment crisis in the sector and staff shortages.

The study showed 61 per cent of practices highlighted staff resources as their major challenge for 2022.

The results of the survey follow a rise in pet ownership during the pandemic.

27 per cent of practices reported behavioural issues with household animals as their owners returned to work.

The survey was conducted between November 2021 and January 2022.

69 per cent of practices are planning on launching a recruitment drive to cope with shortages.

Work-life balance is another issue in the veterinary sector, with 68 per cent wanting it to be better.

However, the numbers seeking a salary increase declined from those surveyed in 2019.
