Councillors in South Dublin will vote on contentious plans to redesign Lucan Village today.
The €2 million revamp includes a new amphitheatre-style space, resurfacing the main street and creating more room for cyclists and pedestrians.
But the changes have garnered more than 7,000 objections over the removal of parking spaces and concerns it will increase anti-social behaviour.
Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Peter Kavanagh, thinks the scheme is good for the area;
"There's obviously an awful lot of people who have objections and we've received a big petition.
"I still think the scheme is good for Lucan. It's only a net loss of ten parking spaces and it's going to improve the village.
"I will listen to my colleagues and hear what they have to say but it will take a lot of convincing for me not to vote for this scheme."
