The World War 1 sculpture in Stephen's Green has been vandalised with red paint.
Gardaí say they are investigating after it was damaged in the early hours of this morning.
This sculpture is called ‘The Haunting Soldier’ and represents a soldier returning from war.
The six metre high installation, which is made from pieces of metal, was installed earlier this month to mark the centenary celebrations of the end of World War One.
It is due to remain on display until later in the month.
But in the early hours of this morning at 2am someone or some people threw red paint over it.
Gardai say they are investigating criminal damage caused to the installation and are at the scene this morning which has been sealed off.
No arrests have been made so far.
