Liam Died In 2017 At The Age Of 37

The day after St Patrick’s Day 2017, Liam Duggan presented himself to University Hospital Kerry.

Liam was complaining of stomach pain.

He was discharged two weeks later without getting a repeat CT scan before leaving.

However, the pain didn’t go away.

So he returned to the hospital with a high temperature and high pulse.

His condition deteriorated.

He died from sepsis on May 9th 2017 at just 37 years of age.

Four Year Legal Battle

After a four-year legal battle, his wife, Catherine, has now settled her case against the HSE for an undisclosed sum.

In a statement, the General Manager of University Hospital Kerry acknowledged the deficits of care which resulted in Liam’s death.

He's also offered his heartfelt apologies.

While Catherine’s solicitor, Rachel O’Shaughnessy, read out a brief statement on her behalf:

"The HSE's mistakes have had a life-changing effect on Liam's family and friends."

"Who hopefully, after today, can get some peace from this decision, and bring closure to them."

"After a four year battle, I hope that Liam now gets to rest in peace."
