The National Women's Council has warned repeated abuse and threatening of female politicians will push them out of politics.
It comes as two TDs have reported cases of repeated harassment from strangers at their homes.
Speaking to the Irish Examiner anonymously the two female TDs spoke of repeated and highly intimidating harassment from strangers.
One had a sexually violent letter sent to her home and had a stranger repeatedly turn up uninvited to her home.
She's one of at least two TDs that have made reports to gardaí over such intimidation.
Emma de Souza from the National Women's Council has said unfortunately the news is not surprising.
These latest reports are far from isolated incidents.
Last week a man was ordered to stay away from TD Jennifer Caroll MacNeill after harassing her last year.
Junior Minister Anne Rabitte has spoken of how she left her home in the past after threatening phone calls.
Head of the Oireachtas Women's Caucus, Senator Fiona O'Loughlin has said a discussion needs to be had about security for female politicians.
