The Chief of the Army says he's striving to encourage more women in.
Lieutenant General Seán Clancy says they have a very poor gender balance in the forces at present.
It comes as the Defence Forces launched their open today at Farmleigh House, to highlight and promote what they do.

He said the organisation is now finalising new cadetships, "shows a high percentage of women, in comparison to previous years."
The Lieutenant General also said he's hoping to "capitalise" on that "and replicate across the totality of the organisation in due course."
He also admitted, "it is a very slow process."
Women Of Honour
Last week, the Women of Honour welcomed a decision to recommend a full inquiry into alleged abuse in the Defence Forces.

The group previously said the Defence Forces needs to be overhauled in an “informed and structured way” rather than a “knee-jerk reaction to the current climate”.
