Government ministers are reportedly planning major changes at RTÉ following recent revelations.

The government is reportedly planning to appoint its own auditor to examine RTÉ finances. The Sunday Independent reports the Media Minister is considering invoking special powers to do so.

There are also unconfirmed reports in the Irish Mail on Sunday that the government is considering splitting the broadcaster in half in a major restructuring. This would include potentially selling 2fm to a private bidder. A move that could result in up to 400 redundancies.

The Mail also suggests RTÉ salaries might be capped at 176 thousand euro moving forward. Ryan Tubridy may also be asked to hand back the €345,000 he received in a secret deal negotiated by his agent Noel Kelly.

It comes as the chair of the RTÉ Board and the incoming Director General confirmed they'll meet with Minister Catherine Martin in the coming days.

There's been widespread outrage - most notably among RTÉ's own staff - over secret payments made to certain staff and for trips for private clients, while cuts were being made elsewhere.
