The head of RTE has announced she is resigning with immediate effect.
Last week it was revealed, that RTÉ had failed to declare €345,000 that it had paid Ryan Tubridy since 2017.
Dee Forbes has apologised for her part in the Ryan Tubridy saga, adding that as Director General, she is ultimately accountable.
In a statement, she said: "I regret very much the upset and adverse publicity suffered by RTÉ."
TDs and Senators will discuss the payments fiasco at two Oireachtas Committee meetings this week.
Ms Forbes has been asked to attend despite her resignation.
NUJ
The National Union of Journalists says the resignation of Dee Forbes raises several fundamental issues.
The organisation believes the Chair of the RTÉ Board should meet with each member of the Executive Board, to clarify their individual involvement, if any.
RTÉ Reaction
The RTÉ board has said it will issue a detailed statement tomorrow in relation to Ryan Tubridy's pay since 2020.
It will also publish parts of the Grant Thornton review the board received last Monday.
Payments to Ryan Tubridy between 2017 and 2019 are still being investigated.
