The man was shot a number of times in the chest yesterday evening and later died in hospital.
He was known to Gardaí and they believe this attack was part of a local gang feud.
Members of the Garda Technical Bureau examined the scene last night and an incident room has been set up at Coolock Garda Station.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with camera footage taken in and around the area between 4.30 and 5.30 yesterday evening to come forward.
